The Nonsuch Estate sits in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu, close to the hill town of Ooty, at an elevation of around 5,000 to 6,500 feet above sea level. It is one of the most consistently admired estates in the region — regarded alongside Tiger Hill and Glendale as among the finest that Nilgiri tea has to offer — and this Broken Orange Pekoe is a straightforward illustration of why. Fragrant, brisk, and honest, it is a Nilgiri loose leaf black tea that delivers genuine pleasure without pretension.

The name Nonsuch means unparalleled, and while that might sound bold for an everyday tea, there is something in it. The Nilgiri Hills produce a style of black tea that sits comfortably between the strength of an Assam and the delicacy of a Darjeeling — broadly comparable to a fine Ceylon, but with its own distinct character. The BOP grade — Broken Orange Pekoe — gives a quicker, fuller infusion than a whole leaf grade, releasing the tea's fragrant, slightly floral qualities with ease. Ingredients: Black tea (Nilgiri, India)

Brewing Note: This is a forgiving, straightforward tea to brew, which is part of its appeal. Use freshly boiled water at around 95°C and steep one teaspoon per cup for 3 to 4 minutes. A shorter steep keeps the cup light and particularly floral; a minute or two longer gives more body if you prefer your tea with milk. The BOP leaf infuses quickly and evenly, so there is no need to fuss — just let it sit, then pour. Best enjoyed as a single infusion, fresh each time.
