🍡 The Blend β€” A considered combination of Assam, Ceylon, and Kenya black teas in a quality medium leaf grade, each origin selected for the specific character it brings to the cup

🍡 The Colour β€” Pours a deep, glowing amber with a satisfying clarity β€” rich and warming, the colour of a proper British morning brew

🍡 The Character β€” Malty and full-bodied from the Assam, lifted by the brightness of Ceylon, with Kenyan tea adding robust strength and a long, rounded finish

🍡 The Cup β€” Excellent with milk and a touch of sugar, or pleasingly smooth taken black β€” a reliable, satisfying brew from breakfast through to the afternoon

The English Breakfast blend has a longer history than most people realise. Although drinking a strong black tea to accompany breakfast has been a British custom since at least the late eighteenth century, the modern classic β€” built on the triumvirate of Assam, Ceylon, and Kenya β€” took shape gradually as British trade expanded across India, Sri Lanka, and East Africa. It was Queen Victoria, famously partial to a robust cup, who helped popularise the blend after tasting it at Balmoral in 1892; within a generation, English Breakfast had become the standard by which all everyday teas were measured.

English Breakfast Blend No.6 draws on the same time-honoured combination of origins. The Assam brings the deep, malty foundation that gives the blend its backbone β€” bold without being rough, with a warm, toast-like richness that holds up beautifully with milk. Ceylon contributes brightness and a natural liveliness to the cup, adding clarity and a gentle citrus lift that keeps the blend from feeling heavy. The Kenyan tea completes the picture, lending robust strength, good body, and that characteristic warm amber colour in the cup. Together they create a blend that is greater than the sum of its parts: full-flavoured, bright, and smooth.

The medium leaf grade has been chosen carefully. Larger leaf grades often brew more slowly, while smaller broken grades can tip into astringency; medium leaf sits at the ideal point for a consistent, well-rounded cup β€” good body and clarity in every brew, with none of the muddiness that a poorly chosen grade can introduce.

Since 2008, High Teas London has been one of the country's leading independent tea specialists. With one of the largest collections in the country β€” over 350 teas and infusions from the world's finest gardens β€” the range spans everything from classic everyday blends to rare single-estate discoveries. This English Breakfast is a proud part of that collection: a timeless blend, thoughtfully sourced and reliably excellent.

Ingredients: Black tea (Assam, Ceylon, Kenya)

Brewing Note: For English Breakfast Blend No.6, use freshly boiled water β€” this is a black tea that benefits from full heat. Allow one heaped teaspoon per cup, or a slightly generous measure per pot, and steep for three to four minutes depending on how strong you like your cup. A shorter steep gives brightness and a cleaner finish; a longer one draws out the full malty depth of the Assam. This blend is particularly well suited to milk, which softens the tannins and brings out the warmth of the liquor. If you prefer your tea without, four minutes gives a rounded, satisfying result. Avoid over-steeping, as the Kenyan and Assam leaves can become bitter beyond five minutes.
