🍵 The Blend — A fragrant black tea with bergamot, orange pieces, cornflower and rose petals, lime leaves, and a bright lemon note that lifts the whole cup

🍵 The Colour — A warm, coppery amber infusion, clear and inviting, with a full-bodied richness that carries well with or without milk

🍵 The Character — Bergamot-scented and gently floral, with a piquant citrus edge from the lemon that gives this blend a livelier, more delicate finish than a classic Earl Grey

🍵 The Occasion — Beautifully suited to mid-morning or afternoon; elegant enough for a proper sit-down tea, easy enough for an everyday cup

Bergamot and black tea is one of the great partnerships in the tea world — and the Baroness Grey Blend shows exactly why, while adding a bright, citrus-forward twist that sets it apart. Built on the familiar and beloved foundations of an Earl Grey, this blend goes further: orange pieces, lime leaves, and a lift of lemon give the cup a livelier, more layered character, softened beautifully by the gentle floral presence of cornflower and rose petals. The result is something altogether more nuanced than a straightforward Earl Grey — fragrant and full-bodied, yet with a tart, refreshing finish that makes it genuinely distinctive.

The story behind bergamot-scented tea is one of Britain's most enduring tea legends. The bergamot orange — a small citrus fruit grown predominantly in Calabria in southern Italy — has been paired with black tea since at least the early nineteenth century, when Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey and British Prime Minister, became so closely associated with the blend that it took his name. Whether the tea came to him as a diplomatic gift, a happy accident of shipping, or a careful blending exercise to suit the mineral-heavy water at his Northumberland estate, the partnership of bergamot and black tea has endured for nearly two hundred years. The Baroness Grey Blend takes that classic foundation and enriches it with layers of citrus and flower — a natural and elegant evolution of the tradition.

In the cup, the colour is a deep, warm copper, bright and full. The bergamot is present and pleasingly aromatic without being sharp, and the citrus notes from the orange pieces and lime leaves add depth and a light tartness to the finish. The cornflower and rose petals contribute a subtle floral quality that rounds out the blend and softens the edge of the black tea base. It is lively and full-flavoured — a tea that rewards attention — and sits comfortably with a little milk or entirely without, depending on your preference.

Since 2008, High Teas London has been one of the country's leading independent tea specialists. With over 350 teas and infusions — one of the largest collections in the country — we have spent years seeking out blends that offer something genuinely worth returning to. The Baroness Grey Blend is exactly that: a tea with depth, character, and a fragrance that announces itself the moment the leaf meets hot water.

Ingredients: Black tea, orange pieces, cornflower petals, rose petals, lime leaves, natural flavours (organic compliant).

Brewing Note: Use freshly boiled water at around 95°C and allow the leaves to steep for 3 to 4 minutes. A shorter steep will give a lighter, more floral cup in which the citrus notes sing clearly; a little longer brings out the full body and a pleasing tartness in the finish. This blend works well without milk, which allows the bergamot and lemon character to come through at their brightest — though a small dash of milk softens everything into a rounder, more classic cup. Avoid over-steeping, as the black tea base can turn bitter if left too long. One infusion gives the best results with this blend.
